google search form
« on: February 08, 2008, 03:03:37 AM »
in the template with the free ad supported board the <bn menu> tag that supplies the navigation buttons also seems to supply the google search form :(

is there a way to remove this ugly form which seems completey pointless as there is already a search button supplied with the forum ???

Well, actually its not "completely pointless" because the search button on the forum is for searching your forum, not Google or Boardnation.

And yes, there is a way to remove it: Upgrade to a Flagship or Advanced plan, and it disappears  ;)

are you saying that this is the only way or it is the only way that you know of ?

A way I managed to remove it is not to use the <bn menu> tag at all and instead put my own <a href> links to the button images and functions but this is only a partial fix as i have not found a way to supply the member id to the profile button

any ideas ?

You just gave me a great idea  :-*

I never actually noticed that the only dynamic part of the menu's URLs is the profile button where it uses User= to give the username to the profile page... If we isolate that part into a bn tag in itself, then that would mean anyone could craft their own navigation menus at will.

But I'm sorry to say, I can't do anything about that for now. As Kevin says, the only way that google search will go away is if you upgrade. The cheapest flagship is only 4 dollars, and you get rid of the ads too and get extra features.

In the future, your idea will make a lot of people happy. Thank you.
