A Board is a Terrible Thing to Waste.

Greetings!

I wanted to show you a message board that we are putting together for the City of Portland:

http://pdx.dev.boardnation.com/

Please note that this board is still in development mode, but you are free to check it out, even make a post or two!  There is 1 problem with the news fader not "fading" in IE 7.
Notice the buttons on the Nav bar for smaller and larger fonts, to assist the visually impaired!  My mom is legally blind, so I'm famiiliar with what a challenge that can be, so I thought that this was a great feature  :)

There are also buttons available to narrow/widen the screen, but I have them disabled in the Admin panel.

This of course is an SMF board using a custom theme "Cityscape", by Bloc.  SMF boards are available now with our Advanced plans, and will be available to everyone with BN2.

Thanks Allen, I think it's shaping up nicely myself :)  Really though, picking the right theme for your board is the key (there will be lots of choices), and then customizing the details from there.

And of course we're glad to help. A nice looking message board is one of the ways to draw new people in (who doesn't want to be part of a cool board?)  If it's plain jane, well, it's just not as much fun!

I have a question about the lakeside picture that's at the top of the Portland forum.
I have a photo that I would like to incorporate on our board once we are switched.
To get the exact same effect as the picture on the Portland board....what size does this picture need to be?

One thing I noticed , the colored blocks allow a user to change the look of the board to whatever they like the best.
That's pretty cool I thought.
I think my members will enjoy that feature.

Well that photo (actually it's a section of the Willamette River, which runs right thru the center of Portland) is an 800 x 200 jpg that happens to be quite large (153 kb), so it does affect the load time somewhat.  But I felt it was worth it  :)

Yes, I thought it was a nice feature too.  And actually you can enable/disable the colored blocks in the Admin panel (not sure why they would, but some people may wish to disable it).
